Free consultationCartaya Law Office is a solo family law practice in Woodbridge, a community within the City of Vaughan, Ontario. It's run by founder Jorge A. Cartaya, who earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction from the University of Toronto in 2011 and a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in 2015. Cartaya completed the Law Practice Program at Ryerson University while working at Mazinani Law Offices, then was called to the bar in Ontario in June 2016 as a Barrister and Solicitor. Cartaya spent about a year and a half as an associate lawyer at Blue Letter Law Professional Corporation, handling family and wills and estates files, before opening Cartaya Law Office in January 2018.
The firm's work centres on family law: cohabitation agreements, separation agreements and marriage contracts, uncontested and contested divorces, child and spousal support, parenting time, and division of property. It also prepares wills and powers of attorney and offers notarial services such as affidavits, statutory declarations, and document certification. Cartaya speaks and writes Spanish fluently, and the office offers services in English and Spanish. Cartaya has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice, is a member of the Toronto Lawyers Association, and is listed on Legal Aid Ontario's roster of family law lawyers, so the office accepts legal aid certificates alongside private retainers.

Legal aidThe office sits on Roytec Road (Unit 5B) in Woodbridge, a large suburban community in the southwest corner of the City of Vaughan, west of Highway 400. Woodbridge began as its own incorporated village in 1882 and became part of Vaughan when the municipality amalgamated in 1971. It has since grown into one of the most concentrated Italian Canadian communities in the country, as families who first settled in Toronto's Little Italy moved north into the area; the 2021 census recorded 106,810 residents in Woodbridge, with about 46.7% reporting Italian origin, formerly the highest such share of any community in Canada and now second to Nobleton. Cartaya Law Office, which offers services in English and Spanish, works out of this Vaughan suburb while taking on family law clients from across the wider Greater Toronto Area rather than from a single downtown core.
