About Match Court Legal

Match Court Legal is a family and estates litigation firm based in Newmarket, Ontario, with a second office in Toronto's Yorkville neighbourhood. Founder Chantalle Sawision Sterne started the practice in 2018, after working as family counsel at a firm with offices across Canada and the United States. Before that, Sterne articled at a family law firm in Toronto's financial district, on cases that included celebrity clients and matters that drew national news coverage. Sterne holds a Juris Doctor from Bond University in Australia, earned in 2012, and a bachelor's degree in political science and legal studies from Wilfrid Laurier University.

The firm handles family law and estates litigation, offering mediation, arbitration, and collaborative options alongside courtroom representation in the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice. Sterne's cases have included complex separations involving parties living abroad and questions under the Hague Convention on international child abduction. Match Court Legal is also hired by other law firms to handle trial litigation in family and estates matters, work that not every firm handles in house.

Sterne's work on family law has been featured in Divorce Digest and IN Magazine, and in interviews with Elle Magazine, Global News, and AM 640 Radio. The office also includes a client relations manager, two law clerks, and a financial records manager, along with ongoing relationships with income and business valuators for complex asset disputes.
