Burchett Law, formally CL Burchett Professional Corporation, is a law firm in Newmarket, Ontario. Christine Burchett acquired the practice in October 2014 from Kearney Law Office, a Newmarket practice with more than 30 years of history founded by Neal Kearney, a longtime member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Under the Burchett Law name, the firm handles three areas: business and corporate law, residential and commercial real estate, and wills, estates and powers of attorney.
Burchett's path into law started somewhere else. Burchett holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Gonzaga University and a law degree from Seattle University School of Law, and worked as an electrical engineer with Boeing before moving into legal work. After moving to Ontario in 1998, Burchett worked at a global aircraft manufacturing company, handling new and used aircraft sale, lease, acquisition and financing transactions worldwide, before taking over the Newmarket practice in 2014. The wills and estates practice includes Henson trusts and discretionary trusts for families whose children have special needs, and the real estate practice serves clients across Ontario through electronic land registration rather than in person filings alone.
