About Layne Family Law

Layne Family Law Professional Corporation is a family law practice in Markham, Ontario, founded by Julie Layne. It works with clients across the Greater Toronto Area on separation and divorce, including custody and access, child and spousal support, division of property, and marriage and cohabitation agreements. The firm doesn't rely on litigation alone: files can move through negotiation, collaborative family law, mediation, or arbitration instead, depending on what fits the family.

Layne was called to the Ontario bar in 2002 after graduating from the University of Toronto Law School and articling at the Federal Court in Ottawa. The first years were spent in commercial litigation at a Toronto firm before a move into family law exclusively in 2006. Layne went on to complete a Masters in Family Law at Osgoode Hall Law School in 2013, and later added certification and training in collaborative family law, a process in which a separating couple and their lawyers work as a team toward an agreement instead of going to court.
