In 1969, when Waterloo had no high-rise office towers, Stan Marsland took on a new company that many doubted would succeed, and acquired the property at the corner of Erb and Albert from the City of Waterloo. The site had held the historic town hall, which the city had abandoned and which had fallen into disrepair, and the original town hall cornerstone is on display in the lobby today. The finished 13-storey tower opened on May 14, 1971, and a four-storey addition and a parking garage came in 1993.
The centre covers 115,000 square feet. Its two-level garage has 220 spaces, 40 of them for visitors on an automated pay and display system. King and Erb, Waterloo's central intersection, is a short block away, with major Grand River Transit bus lines and the LRT. Within four blocks are the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, the Waterloo Public Library, Waterloo Park and the Perimeter Institute, along with dozens of restaurants, banks and stores.
