Flannery Law is a solo practice in Kitchener, Ontario, led by Timothy C. Flannery, a barrister and solicitor who's practised law for more than 30 years. Its core work is civil litigation and family law. Beyond those two areas, the firm takes on employment and workplace disputes, including wrongful dismissal, and estate matters that run from estate administration to questions of competence and capacity. It doesn't treat court as the only route. Flannery Law offers arbitration when a matter can't be settled and needs a clear decision, supports parties working through mediation, and provides independent legal advice, the confidential, independent read a person often needs before signing an agreement reached with the other side.
The firm's roots in Kitchener go back decades. In 1988, its founder acted for a local father who'd been denied Unemployment Insurance benefits after taking leave to care for a newborn, and launched an appeal arguing the refusal breached the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The case drew national news coverage and is credited with helping open parental benefits to fathers. Flannery Law also publishes plain-language articles for the public, including pieces on GST and incorporation for charities and non-profit organizations. Today the practice works from an office on Scott Street, just north of the downtown core.
Wheelchair accessible
By appointmentFlannery Law works from Scott Street, a short residential street on the north side of downtown Kitchener and a few minutes' walk from the Frederick Street courthouse. For a practice built on litigation and family matters, that's a practical address: the Kitchener courthouse at 85 Frederick Street is home to the Superior Court of Justice, so filing counters and hearing rooms are close at hand. The surrounding blocks belong to the city's older core. The nearby Central Frederick neighbourhood is known for its tall mature trees, pocket parks, and long history, a settled, walkable stretch of downtown rather than a glass-tower business district.
