Milling on the land goes back to 1842, when Hiram Kinsman put up a two-storey frame carding mill. George Pattinson was part of a group that bought the property in 1876 and took over the mill outright in 1896, and the Pattinson family went on to own it for close to a hundred years. The complex mixes Georgian stone buildings, Edwardian brick ones and an Italianate office building.
On November 7, 2023, Cambridge council gave notice that it intended to designate the property under the Ontario Heritage Act for its cultural heritage value or interest.
