wires/law is a solo business and technology law practice founded in 2013 by John Wires, who works with founders and technology companies across Canada from a Toronto office at Yonge and Eglinton. Before starting the firm, Wires practiced corporate commercial litigation, litigating shareholder and employee disputes and appearing before the Ontario Superior Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and in private arbitrations. Wires was called to the Bar of the Law Society of Ontario in 2011 and graduated from law school with first class honours, specializing in international trade and corporate law.

The firm now concentrates on the legal needs of startups: incorporations, SAAS and e-commerce agreements, cofounder and shareholder agreements, privacy law under PIPEDA, and ongoing corporate counsel work, most of it billed at a fixed fee instead of by the hour. Wires wrote The Law for Founders: A Guide to Protecting Your Startup and has discussed crowdfunding and technology law with the Globe and Mail, CBC News, the Toronto Star, and Financial Post. wires/law describes itself as a virtual practice, so founders across the country can access their files and reach Wires by video call rather than needing to visit in person.
