About Wildman at Law

Wildman at Law is a solo criminal defence, administrative law, and sports law practice in Scarborough, in the east end of Toronto. L. Kurt Wildman founded the firm in 2002 and has been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 1999, after articling at Gilbertson, Davis, Herceg, Emerson (now Gilbertson Davis LLP) and working as an associate for John L. Hill, Barrister and Solicitor. Wildman also served as criminal duty counsel with the Ontario Court of Justice and practised with Hinkson, Sachak, McLeod before opening the current firm. The practice handles bail hearings, trials, and appeals in criminal matters, along with administrative law work such as police complaints, professional discipline, and Ontario Review Board proceedings.

Wildman's path to law started somewhere else entirely. Before Osgoode Hall Law School, Wildman trained as a Registered Practical Nurse and has held that credential with the College of Nurses of Ontario since 1996, alongside a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences and economics from the University of Toronto and forensic science coursework at West Virginia University. The firm also has a sports law niche: Wildman has been a registered player agent with the Canadian Football League Players' Association since 1999 and represents athletes in discipline hearings and related proceedings, a practice area that doesn't come up at most Toronto criminal defence firms.

The neighbourhood

The firm's office sits in Consilium Place, a three tower complex in Scarborough City Centre built through the 1980s and long anchored by Telus as a major tenant. It's the kind of highrise business address, a short distance from Scarborough Town Centre, that puts a solo criminal and administrative law practice among established commercial tenants rather than in a standalone storefront. Wildman at Law's caseload isn't limited to the immediate area. Case summaries on the firm's site describe matters heard in the Central East, Central West, and Toronto court regions, reflecting a practice that follows clients across the Greater Toronto Area rather than one tied to a single neighbourhood courthouse.
