Probono Inmate Appeal Program

The Probono Inmate Appeal Program (formerly the Ontario Inmate Appeal Duty Counsel Program) is a Toronto-based pro bono duty counsel service that assists self-represented inmates appealing criminal convictions or sentences before the Court of Appeal for Ontario. It began as a pilot in 1999 with support from the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Court of Appeal, and it draws on a roster of about 40 volunteer lawyers with appellate experience who cover sittings in Kingston and Toronto.
