About Orion Legal Group

Orion Legal Group is a small Toronto business law firm founded by Peter Mantas and Matthew Castel, who are managing partners at Orion and also general partners at the investment firm Logos LP. Both are graduates of the BCL/LLB program at McGill University's Faculty of Law. The firm works from First Canadian Place at 100 King Street West in Toronto's Financial District, focusing on corporate, commercial, and transactional legal work for technology and other growth stage companies, along with more established businesses across Canada.

Rather than billing by the hour, Orion prices its work on fixed fees, with payment options that can include subscriptions, project based pricing, deferred payment, volume discounts, or equity. Both founders came to law from outside conventional practice. Mantas held senior product management roles at Wolters Kluwer's legal research group and at Proofpoint, an eDiscovery and archiving company, and worked in the capital markets, alternative investments, and tax groups at McCarthy Tetrault LLP. Castel worked in product and legal roles at the technology companies Clio and Fiix, and practised intellectual property and commercial law at Fasken Martineau and Davis Polk before co-founding Orion.
