About Mattis Law Professional Corporation

Mattis and Kelsey LLP traces back to Mattis Law Professional Corporation, founded by Maurice J. Mattis. Before moving to Canada in 2006, Mattis worked as a Crown counsel advocate in Toronto and as a superintendent with the Jamaican police. Mattis holds a law degree from the University of the West Indies in Barbados and a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from the University of Technology, Jamaica, and has practiced law since 2006. The firm built its early practice around criminal defence and family law from a Brampton office on County Court Boulevard, close to the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice building for Peel Region.

The practice has since grown into Mattis and Kelsey LLP, adding partner Nakita Kelsey, who was called to the Ontario bar in 2017 after graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2015, along with counsel who holds membership in both the Ontario and Jamaican bars and more than seventeen years of combined legal experience. Today the firm handles family law, criminal defence, estate law, including will planning, probate applications and estate litigation, and immigration law, from family sponsorship to citizenship applications. It offers a free 30 minute consultation for criminal matters and serves clients across Brampton, Scarborough and the wider Greater Toronto Area.
