About Manning Environmental Law

Manning Environmental Law is a small, single-lawyer firm in Toronto that focuses entirely on environmental, energy, aboriginal and planning law. Paul Manning founded the practice and remains its principal, advising clients and appearing as counsel before tribunals and the courts. The work covers contaminated land litigation and advice, defending clients against government enforcement orders and prosecutions, approval applications, and appeals to bodies such as the Environmental Review Tribunal and the Ontario Energy Board. On larger files, the firm often works alongside environmental engineering and urban planning consultants, and it collaborates with clients' existing law firms and in house legal departments when they need environmental law expertise added to a broader team.

Paul Manning is a Certified Specialist in Environmental Law with the Law Society of Ontario, holds a Masters degree in Environmental Law, and gained a UK accreditation in Planning Law. Manning also holds a Certificate in Carbon Finance from the University of Toronto and sits on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Bar Association's National Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section. Since 2010, the firm has published legal commentary on Canadian environmental, energy and climate law through its blog, Environmental Law Bites.
