Gaming Counsel Professional Corporation is a small Toronto law practice that combines two closely related fields: gaming and betting law, and cryptocurrency and bitcoin law. The firm's principal, Stuart Hoegner, is both a lawyer and an accountant, called to the bar in Canada and the United States and a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the State Bar of Nevada, the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association, and the International Masters of Gaming Law. Before starting the practice, Hoegner spent eight years in the Mergers and Acquisitions Tax Group at Ernst and Young and earned a law degree from the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law.

On the gaming side, the practice has advised operators, equipment manufacturers, and provincial governments on licensing, regulatory compliance under the Criminal Code, and the structuring of online and land based gaming businesses. Hoegner edited The Law of Bitcoin, published in July 2015 and described in its release materials as the first book covering cryptocurrency law across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and has written articles on both gaming law and tax law.
