Fleck Innovation Law is a Toronto intellectual property practice founded by Lorraine M. Fleck in 2016, operating under Fleck Professional Corporation. Fleck was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2005 and became a registered Canadian trademark agent in 2006, and has practiced exclusively in intellectual property, privacy, social media, and advertising and marketing law since 2005. Before starting this firm, Fleck was a founding partner of an intellectual property firm that Canadian Lawyer magazine included in its list of Canada's top 10 intellectual property firms in 2016, a ranking that firm reached within its first two years.
The firm's work has spanned trademark, copyright, patent, industrial design, and trade secret litigation and enforcement, along with applications, registrations, and IP transactions and audits. It has also advised on privacy compliance and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), social media policy and enforcement, and advertising and marketing law, including packaging, contests, and comparative advertising claims. Fleck's academic background is unusual for the field: an Honours Bachelor of Science in molecular plant biology and a Master of Science in Forestry, with a thesis in agricultural tree pathology, both from the University of Toronto, before a law degree from Queen's University. Fleck was interviewed by CTV National News on how drones affect privacy and intellectual property, and by Canadian Business magazine on a trademark dispute involving Uber's trucking division.
Wheelchair accessibleFleck Innovation Law's Toronto office has long been on Bay Street, in the city's financial and legal district, an area anchored by Canada's bank towers and many of Toronto's law firms. For a firm built around trademarks, brands, and other business assets, that puts it inside the same few blocks as much of its corporate and institutional client base.
