About Engelduilaw

Engelduilaw is a Toronto criminal defence practice run by sole practitioner Michael Engel out of an office on Queen Street East. Engel graduated from the University of Toronto's St. Michael's College and earned a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1979, then articled under Arthur Maloney, Q.C. That was followed by eight years as an Assistant Crown Attorney at Old City Hall in downtown Toronto, prosecuting a wide range of criminal matters including robberies, frauds, homicides, and sexual assaults, before a move into private criminal defence practice in 1988.

For the past twenty years, Engel's practice has focused exclusively on drinking and driving cases: impaired driving, over 80, refusal to provide a breath sample, drug impaired driving, care and control, and dangerous operation, plus related appeals. Engel has argued cases in Superior Courts throughout the province and before the Ontario Court of Appeal as well as the Supreme Court of Canada, generally aiming to resolve cases through negotiation with the Crown but taking contested matters to trial when that's the better route.
