About Ellen Low & Co.

Ellen Low & Co. is a five-lawyer employment law firm in downtown Toronto, advising employees, contractors, and employers on employment law, human rights, and workplace HR relations. The firm's work ranges from reviewing and negotiating employment contracts to representing clients in litigation and before tribunals such as the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. It favours negotiated settlements and alternative dispute resolution where that serves the client, but it'll take a case to trial when needed.

Ellen Low was called to the Ontario Bar in 2008 after earning a BA (Honours) in History from Queen's University and a Common Law degree from the University of Ottawa, including a stretch of law school spent on an international law project in Nairobi, Kenya. A career at Gowlings and then as a partner at Whitten & Lublin, an employment law firm, ran close to a decade before the firm opened under its own name.

The team includes lawyers who studied at Osgoode Hall Law School and the University of Ottawa, and between them the group offers services in French and Mandarin as well as English.

The neighbourhood

Ellen Low & Co.'s office is in First Canadian Place, at the corner of King and Bay streets in Toronto's Financial District. Built in 1975, the 72 storey tower was the tallest office building in Canada for decades, with banks, professional firms, and a retail concourse inside. For a firm that appears before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and the Ontario Labour Relations Board, that keeps the office close to the courts and tribunals it works in downtown. Clients who can't make it downtown can meet by phone or video instead.
