About Edwards Creative Law

Edwards Creative Law is an entertainment law firm headquartered in Ottawa, with additional offices in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. Mark Edwards founded the firm and remains its managing partner. The firm built its practice entirely around the business side of creative industries: film and television, music, video games and apps, and model and talent work, along with the corporate, employment, and dispute resolution matters that come with them. It acts for clients across Canada outside of Quebec, and its practice extends into every common law province in the country.

Mark Edwards brings close to 30 years of experience structuring, financing, and producing film, television, and interactive media, and is a member of the Law Societies of Ontario and British Columbia. The rest of the team focuses on different corners of that same business. One partner concentrates on music law and works with recording artists, composers, and festivals, while another lawyer's practice spans film, television, and interactive media work and includes the firm's entertainment litigation matters. Together they don't just draft agreements; they advise on the deals and business decisions behind them.

The neighbourhood

Edwards Creative Law is headquartered in Ottawa, and the Toronto office is one of four locations, alongside Winnipeg and Vancouver. That office sits on the 48th floor of the tower at 1 King Street West, built above the Dominion Bank Building, a Beaux-Arts landmark designed by Darling and Pearson and completed in 1914 at the corner of King and Yonge in the city's financial district. A 2006 renovation added a 51-story residential tower onto the historic bank building below, one of the tallest and most slender residential towers in Canada, so the firm's lawyers work well above one of the oldest banking corners in downtown Toronto.
