Virtual appointmentsCarol Boire Employment Law is a solo employment law practice in downtown Toronto, founded by Carol Boire. Boire holds an LL.B from the University of Victoria and a BA in political science and business administration from Bishop's University. During law school, Boire provided legal opinions to the British Columbia Human Rights Council, and Boire was called to the Ontario bar in 1999. Boire then spent several years at a Mississauga firm focused on employment law before opening this practice in downtown Toronto.
The firm acts for both employees and employers, covering wrongful and constructive dismissal, severance package review, workplace harassment and bullying, sexual harassment, and age and disability discrimination claims. It also advises on employment agreements, including non-competition, non-solicitation, and confidentiality provisions, and on fiduciary duty questions that can arise even without a written contract. Boire has completed the Mediation Workshop in the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, along with ADR and advanced ADR training through the Stitt Feld Handy Group and workplace investigations training through the Workplace Institute.

ContingencyThe firm's office is in the DBRS Tower at 181 University Avenue, one of two towers in the Adelaide Place complex in Toronto's financial core. The building went up in 1975 and was renovated in 2001, and it connects directly into the PATH pedestrian network, putting the office a short walk from the St. Andrew subway station and the hotels, shops, and other office towers along University Avenue and York Street. It's a commuter friendly downtown address built around office workers rather than a courthouse or a particular practice cluster, which fits a solo employment practice that meets clients travelling in from across the Toronto area rather than serving one neighbourhood.
