About John F. Silvester

John F. Silvester is a sole practitioner lawyer based in Mississauga, Ontario, who has practised criminal and family law for more than 25 years. Admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1993, Silvester holds a Bachelor of Arts in North American history from McGill University (1987) and a law degree from the University of Toronto (1990), and articled with the Constitutional Law and Policy branch of Ontario's Ministry of the Attorney General. A sabbatical from practice between 2002 and 2004 led to a Master of Arts in Communications from the University of Miami.

The practice takes on criminal defence matters ranging from assault and drug charges to bail hearings, weapons charges and youth offences, along with family law work covering separation agreements, divorce, child custody and access, and child and spousal support. It also handles fertility law files, drafting contracts between intended parents and surrogates, and estate law matters such as wills and powers of attorney. Outside client files, Silvester has served as a per diem duty counsel at the Brampton courthouse for more than 20 years and works part time for the Law Society of Ontario as a tutor for candidates retaking the Barrister or Paralegal Licensing Examination.
