About Hogan Law

Hogan Law is a criminal defence firm based in Mississauga, with an office on Village Centre Place in the city's downtown core. Founder Mark Hogan spent several years at a large corporate law firm, working on matters involving the Ontario Securities Commission and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, before starting the practice. Hogan holds a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Toronto and a law degree from the University of Ottawa. Hogan was called to the Ontario bar in 2004, after winning the Joseph Sedgwick, Q.C. Prize for finishing first overall in the criminal law section of the Bar Admission Course.

The firm defends clients across the Greater Toronto Area and the rest of Ontario against charges ranging from impaired driving and assault to drug, weapons, sexual, and homicide offences, along with quasi-criminal and regulatory proceedings. Its associates add some range beyond that core: one also takes on family litigation, negotiating resolutions through mediation as well as appearing in court, and another handles civil matters such as contract disputes and debt recovery alongside criminal defence work. Between them, the team holds degrees from the University of Ottawa, the University of Birmingham, Bond University, and Lincoln Alexander School of Law.

The neighbourhood

Hogan Law's office sits on Village Centre Place in Mississauga City Centre, the planned downtown core built up around Square One, Canada's second largest shopping mall, and packed with more high-rise towers than any city core in Ontario apart from downtown Toronto itself. The street runs west of Hurontario Street and south of Highway 403, in easy reach of clients from across the region rather than a single neighbourhood. One of the firm's associates got an early look at how the local courts work by serving as a research assistant to Ontario Court of Justice judges at the A. Grenville and William Davis courthouse in nearby Brampton, the courthouse that handles most Peel Region criminal matters, during the final semester of law school.
