Port Credit is the lakefront village that gives Mississauga's waterfront its identity, a former harbour town that kept its own name and much of its historic core after amalgamating into the city in 1974. It grew up around a working harbour at the mouth of the Credit River that shipped grain and supported a fishing fleet through the 19th century, and that same harbour is now a marina, with the original village grid protected as a heritage conservation district. Hagel opened the firm there in 2009, saying the area needed an estate and trusts practice outside downtown Toronto, and the office on Lakeshore Road East has stayed in that same waterfront village since, closer to a marina and a heritage main street than to a courthouse.
