About Hagel Lawfirm

Hagel Lawfirm is a small estate law practice in Port Credit, the lakefront village within Mississauga. Dorothy Hagel founded the firm there in 2009, after recognizing a need for an estate and trusts law practice outside downtown Toronto. Hagel earned a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, graduating in 2004, and is licensed as a Barrister, Solicitor and Notary Public. Before starting the practice, Hagel worked in the corporate world and as a financial advisor, background the firm says still shapes how it coordinates with a client's own financial and tax advisors.

The practice concentrates on estate planning, estate administration and probate, and estate litigation and guardianship, together with real estate and corporate work such as incorporations and business purchases and sales. Estate planning documents include family trusts, alter ego and joint partner trusts, Henson trusts for beneficiaries with disabilities, and estate freezes used in business succession. On the litigation side, the firm says it favours negotiation and mediation to resolve estate disputes before they drain the estate's value, while remaining ready to go to court, as it did in Drennan v. Drennan, a 2024 Ontario Superior Court case about litigation financing. Navjot Singh, a licensing candidate with a law degree and a master of law from Panjab University in Chandigarh, works alongside Hagel on estate, litigation and real estate files.
