About Setzer Immigration Law

Setzer Immigration Law is a sole immigration and refugee law practice in Ottawa, founded by Laura Setzer in 2005. Setzer earned a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1991 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993. After qualifying as a solicitor in England, five years of practice there followed, all of it in immigration and refugee law, before a return to Canada to open the Ottawa firm. The practice has stayed exclusively in immigration and refugee matters since the firm's founding in 2005.

The firm handles citizenship and permanent residence applications, visas and permits, and refugee, humanitarian, and compassionate applications, together with appeals and reviews. Court and tribunal work includes detention reviews and refugee hearings before the Immigration and Refugee Board, judicial review applications at the Federal Court, sponsorship appeals, and independent applications for immigration to Canada. Before law, Setzer's background included work in women's shelters, experience that carries into representing women facing immigration and refugee difficulties and clients dealing with mental health challenges. The office is at 24 Bayswater Ave, in Ottawa's Hintonburg neighbourhood.
