About Liu Chooti Law & Counselling Group

Liu Chooti Law & Counselling Group is a downtown Ottawa practice that pairs legal services with in house counselling. It is operated as a general partnership by two equity seeking partners, a lawyer and a registered social worker, and its name combines the surnames of its two founding partners, Michelle "Mic" Liu and Rubina Chooti Boucher. The legal side handles family law, landlord and tenant matters, employment and labour law, human rights, immigration law, contract disputes, administrative law, and civil litigation, and the firm lists notary public among its services. The counselling side, led by Chooti Boucher, provides individual and family therapy along with inclusion consulting, equity audits, policy development and review, and group workshops for outside organizations, so a client dealing with a legal problem doesn't have to look elsewhere for counselling support.

Liu earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa, Magna Cum Laude with the Dean's Award, and is a licensed Professional Engineer, after earlier work in infrastructure and construction engineering. Liu's legal experience includes family, employment, and administrative work at Danielson Kabesh Law in Ottawa, environmental law at Ecojustice Canada, and work at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. Chooti Boucher is a graduate of Dalhousie University's social work program, holds degrees in psychology and community studies, and came to the firm after a career in labour adjudication, national union leadership, and grassroots activism.
