About Letts Law

Letts Law is an Ottawa firm on Augusta Street in the city's Lowertown neighbourhood, practicing family law, human rights law, and wills and estates, led by founder Eric Letts, who earned a law degree from the University of Alberta, was called to the Ontario bar in 2007, and has practiced family and human rights law for more than 15 years. The family law side of the practice covers cohabitation agreements, separation and divorce, and decision-making responsibility and parenting time (formerly known as custody and access), through mediation and negotiated settlements as well as litigation at every level of the Ontario courts.

On the human rights side, Eric Letts focuses on discrimination cases involving parents and children, including matters based on family status, marital status, gender, or disability, and brings complaints before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Canadian Human Rights Commission, or the courts. In 2015, Eric Letts launched a class action against the Ontario government over the clawback of child support payments from parents receiving social assistance, a case covered by the Toronto Star, and has since sought to certify a federal class action over pension calculation errors affecting roughly 250,000 current and former federal employees, reported by Blacklock's Reporter. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the firm has offered most of its services virtually, with wills and estates handled for a flat fee.
