Finlayson & Singlehurst is an intellectual property firm in Ottawa. Donald G. Finlayson and John C. Singlehurst formed the firm in 1989, after practicing together at Meredith & Finlayson. Finlayson's background was in mining engineering; Singlehurst, a former Patent Examiner, brought mechanical engineering training to the practice. The firm works exclusively in intellectual property, covering patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and copyright, for clients in Canada and abroad. John C. Singlehurst, born in Winnipeg in 1940, was called to the Ontario bar in 1969 and holds a mechanical engineering degree from Queen's University and a law degree from the University of Toronto.

Hugh D. Campbell was a law student with Meredith & Finlayson in 1977 and officially joined Finlayson & Singlehurst in 1992, after working with intellectual property litigation firms in London, England, and in Canada; Campbell's degrees are in electrical engineering from Queen's University and law from McGill University. Donald Finlayson retired from the firm in 1996 but stayed on as an advisor; Finlayson died in 2005. The practice has since added Peter J. Pribil, a barrister, solicitor, and Registered Trade-mark Agent; Tim N. Vandermeer, who joined the firm in 2004 and became a Registered Trade-mark Agent in 2007; Markham D.R. Moore, who works in biological science and biotechnology patents; and David A. Singlehurst, who joined the firm in 2011 with expertise in mechanical engineering.
