About Racine Law

Racine Law Professional Corporation is a law firm in downtown Port Hope, Ontario, serving Northumberland County. Founder Melanie Racine incorporated the practice in March 2016, in the town where Racine grew up, and moved it to its current Walton Street office that November. What started as a small practice has grown into a team of ten, working across real estate, wills and powers of attorney, estate administration, land use, and business and corporate law. Racine holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Military History from the University of Waterloo and went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Cardiff in Wales, an unusual academic route for a firm now rooted in a small Ontario county seat.

The team also includes Bruce Coleman, whose earlier office was displaced by a flood, prompting a move to 50 Walton Street in 1983, where Coleman has practiced law since and became a sole practitioner in 1992. That pairs decades of local practice history with a newer firm built up since 2016. Racine Law's real estate work covers residential purchases, sales, mortgages, and refinances, plus commercial deals and private lender representation, while its land use practice handles zoning reviews, severances, easements, and registry system conversions for property in and around Port Hope.
