Virtual appointmentsRoth Law Offices is a small litigation firm based in Cobourg, Ontario. Senior counsel M. Christine Roth was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2004 and opened a practice in Toronto right after, taking on cases across many areas of law in the practice's early years just to keep it running. Roth relocated to Cobourg at the end of 2011, and by 2013 had opened a second office in the town, extending the practice into Northumberland County. Today the firm concentrates on civil, family, and criminal litigation, along with Canadian Human Rights Tribunal matters and Indigenous law issues. Associate lawyer Adrian Touchette, called to the bar in 2016, focuses on family and criminal law and accepts Legal Aid Ontario certificates.
Roth grew up in Iran and took part in political activism as a teenager during the Islamic revolution there, activity serious enough that a death warrant was issued and the country had to be left behind. A period in Spain followed, tied to family heritage on that side, before Roth settled permanently in Canada and went on to build the litigation practice now based in Cobourg.

Legal aidThe Cobourg office sits on Division Street, a thoroughfare that has run from the Lake Ontario pier to the regional highway system since at least the early 20th century and still serves as the town's historic dividing line for east and west house numbering. By 1850, Cobourg's civic leaders hoped the town's harbour might help it overtake Toronto and Kingston as a commercial hub, though those ambitions were thwarted by railroad failures and economic depression by the 1860s. The grand homes left behind by wealthy American visitors during the town's later turn-of-the-century run as a summer resort still shape its downtown blocks today. For a litigation practice built on family, criminal, and civil disputes, working out of one of the town's oldest streets puts the office close to the daily life of the Northumberland County seat it now calls home.
