About Sangster Law

Sangster Law is a small general practice firm based in North Bay, Ontario. William A. Sangster moved to North Bay from Hamilton in 1978 and worked with several other local lawyers before opening an independent practice in 1990, starting out in criminal law and later adding real estate, corporate and business work, wills and estates, family law, and civil litigation. The founder's son, Liam M. Sangster, became managing partner in December 2015, and the firm still operates out of the same building at 234 Main Street West.

The current team pairs that history with newer credentials. Liam Sangster studied commerce at McMaster University's DeGroote School, then completed a law degree with Class B Honours on Australia's Gold Coast in 2014 before being called to the Ontario bar in 2015. Lawyer Ed Rae, called to the bar in 1998 after a law degree from the University of Western Ontario, joined Sangster Law in 2023 following years as a sole practitioner in North Bay. Licensed paralegal Alyssa Robillard, a North Bay native who studied criminology at the University of Ottawa, was licensed by the Law Society of Ontario in October 2025 and joined the firm in 2026, handling small claims, landlord and tenant, and provincial offences matters.
