Thomson & Gowsell LLP is a general practice law firm with an office on Princess Street in Kingston, Ontario. The firm brings together two individual practices under one name. Alan Thomson was called to the bar in 1976 after studying at Queen's University, worked for a Kingston firm for two years, and established an independent Kingston practice in 1978. For more than 25 years, Thomson also maintained a second office in Verona, a hamlet north of the city. John Gowsell, who grew up in Kingston and also studied at Queen's University, returned home in 2007 after working at larger firms in Toronto and Ottawa and took over an existing local practice.

The firm concentrates on real estate transactions, wills and powers of attorney, estate administration, and corporate and commercial law. Thomson's early work centred on rural real estate and land development, including the registration of more than 30 plans of subdivision, and later included taking over the practice of a former Kingston lawyer, Bruce Griffith. Gowsell's background at larger commercial firms carries into more complex files, from commercial mortgage financing to share purchases and business succession planning, alongside the residential real estate, wills, and small business work that make up daily practice at the firm.
