About The Estates Group

Estates Group Professional Corporation concentrates entirely on wills, estates, guardianship, and capacity law, and it serves clients in Windsor, Hamilton, and Kingston. Founder and Managing Partner Sylvia A. LaFontaine holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law. Before focusing on estates work, LaFontaine practised as a sole practitioner in rural southwestern Ontario concentrating on real estate, then worked as an investigator with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General and served as Director of Healing and Wellness for the Metis Nation of Ontario.

LaFontaine now practises estate law, estate litigation, and administrative law, with appearances before the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, Small Claims Court, the Landlord and Tenant Board, the Human Rights Tribunal, and various professional disciplinary bodies. The team also includes Ting Lu, a legal professional with over a decade of experience in China and Canada who holds an LLM in Canadian Common Law from Osgoode Hall Law School and is pursuing National Committee on Accreditation lawyer licensing. Lu is fluent in Mandarin and English. Estates Group's initial consultation fee is credited toward the cost of the retainer if a client decides to go ahead.
