About Genesee Law

Genesee Law is a criminal defence firm based in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, where it has practiced for more than 40 years. The firm is led by Frank Genesee, who has represented clients before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and the Quebec Court of Justice, with a particular focus on alcohol related driving offences and other driving charges. Genesee was a founding member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers' Association and belongs to the Hamilton Criminal Lawyers Association and the Hamilton Law Association. The firm has also operated under the name Genesee Martin Associates.

The firm's second lawyer, Aneta Belgrau, articled and summered at Genesee Law before joining as an associate. Belgrau earned a J.D. from the University of Calgary's Faculty of Law after an undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in political science, socio-legal studies, and women and gender studies, and clerked at the Calgary Provincial Court of Justice before being called to the bar in 2020. Belgrau's practice covers criminal defence and immigration law, and extends to membership in the Halton County Law Association, the Hamilton Criminal Lawyers Association, and the Peel Law Association. Together, the two lawyers handle impaired driving, drug, assault, and other criminal and provincial offences for clients in Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Ancaster, and nearby Golden Horseshoe communities.
