About Suregrant Professional Corporation

Suregrant Professional Corporation is the professional corporation of Philip J. Kennedy, a commercial litigator based in the Hamilton area. Kennedy graduated from the University of Victoria's Faculty of Law in 2000, articled with a Bay Street firm, and was called to the bar in Ontario in 2002. Kennedy went on to work at two other international law firms, in Toronto and in Sydney, Australia, qualifying to practice in New South Wales in 2008, and served as in-house counsel for a major bank's retail and small business banking division. In early 2017, Kennedy founded Suregrant Law as an independent practice built around affordable, responsive legal service for small and medium-sized businesses.

Suregrant's work centered on commercial litigation and business disputes, with particular experience in franchise matters for both franchisors and franchisees, including the sale and purchase of franchises. The practice also drafted and negotiated commercial agreements, advised on regulatory compliance, and offered notary public services such as affidavits and powers of attorney for local clients.

Kennedy is now a partner at the international law firm Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP, working from Gowling's Hamilton office, and continues to litigate corporate and commercial matters at all levels of the Ontario courts, up to and including the Court of Appeal, as well as before the Competition Tribunal.
