About Carson Law

Carson Law Office Professional Corporation is headquartered on Fairview Street in Burlington, Ontario, and has served Burlington, Halton, and the wider Golden Horseshoe since 2008. The firm traces part of its history to Breen Law, founded in Burlington in 1973 by Christopher C. Breen and an associate, which later operated as Breen & Carter and then Christopher Breen Law. Ryan Carson joined the Breen team in February 2017, and after Christopher Breen's retirement in January 2019, the two practices amalgamated on June 1, 2019 into Carson Law, which still uses Breen Law as an active trade name.

The firm organizes its work into five areas: residential real estate, commercial and corporate law, wills and estate administration, intellectual property through its Carson IP division, and civil litigation. The IP division grew out of James W. Carson's background as an intellectual property lawyer with an engineering degree from Queen's University, called to the bar in 1978, who later headed the intellectual property practice group at Blaney McMurtry before joining Carson Law as counsel in 2018.

In September 2025, Carson Law joined the CRS Law Collective with Rinaldi Silva LLP, a collaboration the firm says brings together lawyers with nearly 120 years of combined experience while Carson Law keeps its own name. The firm runs a team based practice and now handles roughly half its client meetings through Law Society of Ontario approved video conferencing and remote digital signing.

The neighbourhood

Carson Law's office is on Fairview Street in Burlington. The firm's roots go back to serving Burlington, Flamborough, Waterdown, and the surrounding Halton communities, and its stated aim is to be a go to law firm across the wider Golden Horseshoe. The practice grew out of a mobile model rather than a single storefront. When Ryan Carson was first starting out, Carson made a point of traveling to meet clients within about a two hour radius of Burlington rather than requiring them to come to the office. These days, video conferencing and remote digital signing account for roughly half of client meetings, which lets Carson Law work with people across Ontario without requiring a trip to Fairview Street.

Frequently asked questions

Can Carson Law help me buy or sell a home in Burlington or elsewhere in Ontario?
Yes. Residential real estate, including purchases, sales, refinances, and mortgages, is one of the firm's five practice areas, and its remote signing tools let it act on transactions across Ontario, not just in Burlington.
Does Carson Law handle trademarks and patents?
Yes, through its Carson IP division. That practice grew out of James W. Carson's background as an intellectual property lawyer who previously headed the IP practice group at Blaney McMurtry before joining Carson Law as counsel.
Can Carson Law prepare my will, powers of attorney, or act as estate trustee?
Wills and estate administration is one of the firm's core practice areas, alongside residential real estate, commercial and corporate law, intellectual property, and civil litigation.
I'm starting a business in Ontario, can Carson Law help incorporate it?
Commercial and corporate work, including incorporations and shareholder agreements, is one of the firm's five practice areas.
Is Carson Law the same firm as Breen Law?
Yes. Breen Law was founded in Burlington in 1973 and amalgamated with Carson Law in 2019. The Breen Law name is still used as an active trade name at the same Burlington office.
Do I have to visit the Burlington office in person to meet with a lawyer?
No. Using Law Society of Ontario approved technology, roughly half of the firm's client meetings now happen through video conferencing with remote digital signing, and the firm says it can work with clients anywhere in Ontario.
