Moon Law Office is a solo practice in Guelph, run by James (Jim) Moon, a barrister and solicitor who was called to the bar in 1982. The firm keeps to three areas of law. Real estate makes up much of the work, covering residential and commercial transactions, mortgages, leases, and landlord and tenant matters. It also drafts wills and powers of attorney, administers and settles estates, and creates trusts. On the corporate side it handles incorporations, shareholder and partnership agreements, the purchase and sale of a business, and the restructuring and reorganizing of corporations.
The founder came to law after two earlier degrees, an honours B.A. in Canadian Studies from Trent University and an M.A. in history from the University of Waterloo, followed by an LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick. That real estate focus carries into teaching. Moon has been a sessional lecturer at the University of Guelph for more than twenty five years, giving a course in real estate law in the Faculty of Marketing and Consumer Studies. The office sits on Norfolk Street, a short way up from downtown Guelph.

By appointmentMoon Law Office works from 164 Norfolk Street, one of the older streets running out of downtown Guelph. Head back down Norfolk toward the core and the road climbs a hill past the Guelph Civic Museum at number 52 and the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, the limestone church that crowns the rise. For a practice built on real estate and estates, it's a fitting corner of a city known for its heritage stone buildings and long settled neighbourhoods.
