Dason Law Office is a general practice firm on Woolwich Street in Guelph, Ontario, led by Sumita Pillay-Dason. The independent practice opened in 2010. Before starting it, the founder came to Guelph in 2002 and first practised with the local firm Hungerford, Guthrie and Berry. That move followed roughly a decade in Singapore as in-house counsel for the country's national land planning and land development agency, and a period practising real estate and general law in Nova Scotia. All told, it's a practice with about 30 years of legal experience behind it, 15 of them in Guelph.
The work stays broad. The office handles residential real estate purchases, sales, and refinancing, including private mortgages, along with wills and powers of attorney that range from a standard will to primary and secondary corporate wills meant to trim probate costs. It administers estates from the certificate of appointment through to final distribution, and it takes on corporate matters like incorporations, minute-book resolutions, business sales, and franchise questions. Family agreements and divorces, employment issues, and landlord and tenant disputes round out the list, with the firm taking either side at the Landlord and Tenant Board. It also gives independent legal advice and provides notary services. The founder credits a background across several countries and legal systems for the wide perspective.
Wheelchair accessible
By appointmentThe firm sits at 367 Woolwich Street, on the road that runs north out of downtown Guelph. There's a parking lot behind the building off Kerr Street, plus parking on Woolwich itself, and an accessibility ramp and a door button at the back entrance. The office works by appointment rather than as a walk-in. A short way south on the same street stands the County of Wellington Administration Centre at number 74, a limestone building put up in 1842 to 1844 as the county court house and still the seat of county government, with the county law library now housed in the old jail behind it. For a practice built on real estate, estates, and family files across Guelph and the townships around it, that stretch of Woolwich Street is close to the everyday business of Wellington County.
