What kinds of charges does Cheshire Law handle?

The practice focuses only on criminal defence and takes a broad range of charges, including assault, theft, driving and impaired driving offences, drug offences, regulatory offences, correctional law matters, and young offender cases. Through the Legal Aid Ontario roster, it also handles Gladue matters and the most serious criminal charges.

I've been charged with impaired driving. Can Cheshire Law represent me?

Yes. Driving offences, including impaired driving, are among the areas the firm defends. The first step is a consultation, which is always confidential and free.

Does Cheshire Law take Legal Aid, and what if I can't pay up front?

Sarah Cheshire is a roster lawyer with Legal Aid Ontario, so the firm accepts Legal Aid certificates. For clients who don't qualify, it also offers sliding scale rates and payment plans.

Is the first consultation free?

Yes. The firm states that consultations are always confidential and free.

Where is the office, and which areas does the firm serve?

The office is at 111 Farquhar Street, Unit 120, in downtown Guelph. The firm recently moved there and still takes cases in Kitchener, serving Guelph, Kitchener, Walkerton, and other areas by consultation.

Does the firm represent young people or take Gladue matters?

Yes. Cheshire Law handles young offender cases, and its Legal Aid Ontario roster listing includes Gladue matters, which concern the considerations courts give to the circumstances of Indigenous people in the justice system.
