McMackin Law is a civil litigation and employment law firm based in Bowmanville, Ontario, serving Durham Region and Northumberland County. Alan McMackin became a lawyer in 1978 and spent several years at the Federal Business Development Bank before forming a partnership with Sims Brady. In the late 1980s Alan opened a general litigation practice in Whitby. Over a 40 year career, Alan appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada in Trimm v. Durham Regional Police in 1987, and tried upwards of 100 cases before retiring from active practice in 2019. Alan has served as a Deputy Judge since 2004.

Ryan McMackin now runs the firm, having articled directly under founder Alan McMackin. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, and has practised law for over 11 years, trying cases in Small Claims Court, the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, and before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. The firm moved its main office to Bowmanville in 2016 and now handles civil litigation, business and contract disputes, debt collection, employment matters including wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, and real estate litigation. Ryan is fluent in English and Spanish.
