About Carters Professional Corporation

Carters Professional Corporation is a law firm that opened its doors in Orangeville, Ontario on January 2, 2001, starting out with three lawyers, an articling student, and six support staff. Twenty-five years later the firm has grown to about 42 people, including 17 lawyers, and it still keeps its head office in Orangeville, with satellite offices in Ottawa and Toronto. Carters concentrates on charity and not-for-profit law, acting for charitable and faith-based organizations across Canada and internationally, while also serving individuals, corporations, and businesses in business law, litigation, real estate, intellectual property, privacy, employment, and wills and estates.

Carters also practices counter-terrorism law, advising charities operating outside Canada on the country's anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing rules. Several Carters lawyers have been recognized in charity and not-for-profit law by Lexpert, Best Lawyers in Canada, and Chambers and Partners. In 2021 the firm launched an online Knowledge Centre that gathers its charity law articles, seminar materials, newsletters, and risk management checklists in one place.
