About MedCounsel

MedCounsel is an unusual pairing of two affiliated companies built around one specialty, medical malpractice. MedCounsel Law, a sole proprietorship registered in Newfoundland and Labrador, represents individual patients pursuing malpractice claims. MedCounsel Inc., a federally incorporated company operating out of Toronto, works the other side of the same cases, supplying medical experts, independent medical exams, and flat fee case assessments to other law firms. The two entities are legally separate, though the firm says their services can be paired when it helps a client.

James Molony founded the firm and is a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador bar. Molony holds a political science degree from Western University and a law degree from the University of New Brunswick, and worked as an articling student and then an associate at Curtis Dawe Lawyers, largely defending physicians against malpractice claims, before turning to represent patients instead. Marc Di Rosa, a longtime friend of Molony's, joined as Vice President of Client Services after working in finance, government, and technology. The firm's medical side is led by Dr. Andrew Cameron, an emergency physician trained at Queen's University and the University of Toronto, who also holds a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto and has worked as a physician for the Canadian Olympic Ski Cross team and the Vancouver Giants of the WHL.
