About Vismay

Vismay H. Merja is litigation counsel at UL Lawyers, though he practises through VM Legal Professional Corporation as independent counsel rather than as an employee or partner of the firm. His caseload spans personal injury, insurance coverage disputes, long-term disability denials, employment litigation, and complex civil actions across Ontario. He has appeared before the Court of Appeal for Ontario, has conducted numerous hearings before the Licence Appeal Tribunal, and has acted as counsel in jury trials and other proceedings before the Superior Court of Justice, in matters spanning motor vehicle accident and catastrophic impairment claims, statutory accident benefits disputes, slip-and-fall actions, wrongful dismissal, and breach of contract. Reported decisions in which he has acted include UL Lawyers Professional Corporation v. Notay (2022 ONCA 8) and UL Lawyers Professional Corporation v. Hopkins (2025 ONSC 4265). He holds an LL.B. from the London School of Economics and belongs to the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the Peel Law Association.
