About Sophie
Sophie Purnell is the founding lawyer of Purnell Employment Law. She holds a law degree from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resources & Organizational Dynamics from the university's Haskayne School of Business. Before founding her own firm, she worked in employment law at Calgary law firms, served as a Student-at-Law with the Alberta Court of Justice, and worked at the Alberta Human Rights Commission, after an earlier career in human resources in the oil and gas industry. She represents non-unionized and unionized employees in employment, labour, and human rights matters, and has appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice, the Court of King's Bench of Alberta, the Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Human Rights Tribunal of Alberta, the Canadian Human Rights Commission, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, and the Canada Industrial Relations Board. She provides pro bono immigration advice at the Calgary Immigrant Women's Association and serves on the Neuroendocrine Tumours Patient Advocacy Committee for the Canadian Cancer Theragnostic Foundation.
