Shanil Patel practises mental health law before the Consent and Capacity Board, the Ontario Review Board, and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. He obtained his JD from Queen's University and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2020, and he has presented on mental health law for Legal Aid Ontario.
