Richard Kurland practices immigration law with Kurland, Tobe, a national law office with offices in Vancouver and Montreal. Kurland is a member of the Barreau du Quebec and the Law Society of British Columbia and has served as an expert witness on immigration policy before parliamentary committees since 1994. Kurland has advised various governments on immigration matters and was a Special Advisor to the Office of the Auditor General of Canada in 2016. Since 1989 Kurland has been editor-in-chief of Lexbase, a monthly immigration law and policy publication distributed to government agencies, embassies, and immigration lawyers. Kurland received the Senate of Canada Medal in 2017 for work on immigration policy and was named among Canada's most influential people in foreign policy by Embassy Magazine in 2014. Kurland holds a BA, LLB, and BCL from McGill University.
