About Melissa
Melissa Bourgeois is the founder of One Family Law, working with amicable couples through a joint, one-lawyer approach to separation. Bourgeois created the Separate Together: One Lawyer Divorce Method, a model that lets a single neutral family lawyer guide both spouses through a separation agreement, and secured a waiver through the Law Society of Alberta's Innovation Sandbox to offer it after a two-year regulatory process and an 18-month pilot. Bourgeois holds a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Sociology from Concordia University in Montreal and completed the bilingual National Program of Law at the University of Ottawa, earning a JD and an LLL. Bourgeois became a member of the Law Society of Alberta in 2014 and has practiced exclusively in family law since.
