About Martin

Martin Ostensen practises civil litigation, estate planning, wills, business law and real estate in Powell River, following more than 35 years as a trial lawyer, business advisor and academic. He previously held faculty appointments at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and Texas Christian University, teaching health care and public health law, and led Legal Aid Alberta's Legal Services Centres, where he built Canada's first web-based legal aid channel. He holds a Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia, a Masters in Health Administration from the University of North Texas Health Science Center, and MBAs from Cornell University and Queen's University. He received the 2011 Alberta Premier's Medal of Excellence for his work on Alberta Justice's Self-Represented Litigants Initiative. Martin has volunteered with school boards, a public library, and minor sports organizations, and has taught business law at a community college.
