Administrative & Regulatory LawLois MacLean is a partner at Rand Law LLP practising in wills and estates, including estate planning, administration, and litigation, as well as mediation and professional discipline matters. She graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 1981 and was called to the bar in 1982. Early in her career she worked in private practice covering administrative law, civil litigation, criminal defence, and family law, then served as a Complaints Officer with the Law Society of Alberta before joining Rand Law in 2021. She was appointed King's Counsel in 2020 and often assists other estate lawyers with mediation in family conflicts. MacLean served on the Surrogate Reform Committee, whose work received a Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Alberta, and she has taught extensively for the Legal Education Society of Alberta and the Bar Admission course. She has also volunteered with the Canterbury Foundation and served as Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton.
