About Joel

Joel J.W.G. Szaefer is a family and divorce lawyer and the founder of Joel J.W.G. Szaefer Professional Corporation in Sarnia. He was born and raised in Lambton County and focuses his practice exclusively on family law, including decision-making responsibility, parenting time, child support, spousal support, property matters, domestic contracts, Children's Aid Society matters, and adoptions. Joel appears before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, and the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and he is a panel member with the Office of the Children's Lawyer, representing children in high-conflict separations and Children's Aid Society matters. He completed his Honours Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, and Juris Doctorate at the University of Western Ontario. Joel is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, the Advocates' Society, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and he previously served as President of the Lambton Law Association.
