Jana de Waal

About Jana

Jana de Waal was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and immigrated to Canada with her family. She practices all areas of family law, including divorce, child support, spousal support, parenting disputes, guardianship applications, and property division, with an emphasis on alternative dispute resolution such as mediation, four-way settlement meetings, and arbitration. Before joining private practice, she worked at Alberta Justice on child and family services, maintenance enforcement, and child support matters, and has also served as a Crown prosecutor. She holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary (2019), was called to the Alberta bar in 2020, and is currently completing a Master of Laws in dispute resolution. She was an editor of the Legal Education Society of Alberta's Family Law Practice Manual.
