About James

James Coulter is a criminal defence lawyer practising in Ottawa. He entered the University of Ottawa's Common Law Program in 2016 and completed his articles with Michael A. Johnston at Shore Johnston Hyslop Day LLP (now Shore Johnston LLP), a well-known Ottawa criminal defence firm, and continues to practise in shared chambers with Shore Johnston and other criminal defence lawyers. His practice ranges from single-day trials in the Ontario Court of Justice to multi-week contested trials in the Superior Court of Justice and appeals before the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He has been authorized by Legal Aid Ontario to represent clients facing charges designated as Extremely Serious Matters, and also represents contractors, subcontractors, developers, and public authorities in complex construction and infrastructure disputes.
